the summer
sticks to my face
as i speed down
king street.
pedaling past
the mistakes of my past
and riding through
the day's heat waves.

sound waves simmer
on my headphones
and i sing along
to the city's song
then soak up her music
sitting in the shade
before i sweat it out again.

on saturdays
i've watched my city
wake up, hungover
at 7 in the morning.
and just like her
i am worn out
and hungry
for a taste of freedom
from familiar friday nights.

so i'll switch the gears
and hit the restart button
to see the sun
in a different light.
then pedal past
the mistakes of my past
and ride through
the day's heat waves.
