between sleepless dreams

push me back
into the dream
i had
laying next to you
when our lips
were wet
with slippery words
and the early morning
cradled us
in its arms,
whispering poems
into the pillows,
into the sheets.

push me back there,
love,
because i've been awake
ever since you left,
staring at the streetlights
then pounding
my heartbeat
into the lifeless glow
of late-night silence,
trying to squeeze stanzas
out of the gloaming,
out of the unknowing.
