a sound collage ...
i put together a sound collage about the atom bombs that fell on hiroshima and nagasaki in august of 1945. this album also focuses on the propaganda used by different media outlets in the 1940's.
i became more intrigued about the subject after watching a powerful and moving documentary on the survivors of the atom bomb called white light, black rain. after further research, i became aware of the way the media portrayed the united states' role in the atom bomb, through radio clips and propaganda posters. i saw some similarities between that and our current government's portrayal of the "progress" made in the iraq war.
the album was put together using various organic methods - sampling crowd noise at a bar, car noises on the street, etc. i added a lot of old radio propaganda clips from the 1940s, as well as guitar, drums, keyboards and loops. i wanted it to sound like it could have been made in that period of history ... thus, the lo-fi nature of the recording. it was all done at home.
this isn't an easy album to listen to. nor is it lite, by any means. but it does sound good on headphones. (i promise).
enjoy.
